Background of the Study
Job insecurity is a growing concern for casual workers who lack permanent employment contracts and stable income. The fear of job loss and uncertain financial future can lead to anxiety, stress, and reduced overall well-being (Adekunle & Musa, 2024). Casual workers often face unstable employment conditions, inadequate benefits, and low wages, which further exacerbate their psychological distress.
In Kwara State, many individuals work under temporary employment arrangements in sectors such as construction, hospitality, and manufacturing. These workers experience high job turnover rates and lack employment benefits such as health insurance and pensions. Studies indicate that job insecurity is linked to increased stress, lower job satisfaction, and mental health issues such as depression and emotional exhaustion (Okafor et al., 2023). This study seeks to assess the psychological effects of job insecurity on casual workers in Kwara State.
Statement of the Problem
Casual workers in Kwara State face high levels of job insecurity due to temporary contracts and limited employment benefits. This study aims to evaluate the psychological impact of job insecurity and recommend policies to improve workers’ well-being.
